Off it goes! When using the drone to create spatially accurate aerial images of a property, it flies a completely automated pre-determined flight path. We create the flight path prior to arriving at the property. This involves using GIS software to determine the flight area, and then creating a grid pattern above the property for the drone to fly. The height that the drone is going to fly and the speed at which is flies must be determined to ensure that accurate images are captured. When arriving on site the flight plan is uploaded to the drone and the drone then flies off to complete the plan.

The resulting image is a very large and detailed photograph which consists of the hundreds of individual images taken during the flight being stitched together in post-processig. Each pixel in the resulting image typically equals between 1 and 1.5 inches on the ground.

The resulting Image is georeferenced and can be used in GIS applications for spatially accurate mapping. You can integrate GPS data collected in the field into the map such as waypoints denoting points of interest, or use publically available spatial data in conjunction with the aerial image such as soils or wetlands data.
